Bamboo is the most sustainable plant on the planet, it can grow to a rate of up to 1m (3ft) per day. It needs no irrigation, reaches maturity in less than a year, and it is naturally antibacterial. Now that is what we call a super-plant! Aren't you interested to make your own bamboo straw? Check out the steps below!
Tools :
- Secateurs
- Sandpaper
- Pipe cleaner
- A pan to boil the straws in (included water or salt water)
- fresh bamboo or dried bamboo
- Cut the bamboo
- Sand down the bamboo
- Clean the bamboo
Get the bamboo. then,
Cut straw lengths between the joints of the bamboo. If it splits ditch that bit
and use another, or if it is long enough just cut it shorter.
It is very easy to smooth down the edges of the bamboo. You just need to round
off the edges so they feel good in your mouth. or you also could smooth down the
bamboo's pipe if necessary.
The last step, you need to boil the bamboo straws for about 5 minutes, turning
them over half way through. You could also use the sort of sterilising solution
with dissolved salt water. You could clean the inside with a long pipe cleaner.
Check the straws for any cracks or splinters before you use them. With good care they should last for a few years.
